Yamaha In-Line Four 2.8L 150 hp (F150) Outboard
The Yamaha F150 In-Line Four remains one of the most popular and highly regarded four-stroke outboard motors in its class. Known for its legendary reliability, durability, and excellent power-to-weight ratio, it’s a versatile engine ideal for a wide variety of boats — from pontoons and runabouts to center consoles, bay boats, and deep-V hulls.
Key Features (2025 Update)
Engine:
The F150 features a 2.7-liter (mechanical models) or 2.8-liter (digital models), 16-valve, Double Overhead Camshaft (DOHC), in-line four-cylinder powerhead with Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) for smooth, efficient performance.
Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT):
The high-performance V MAX SHO 150 (VF150) variant incorporates VCT technology for optimized valve timing, delivering stronger hole shots and faster mid-range acceleration. The standard F150 retains a naturally aspirated, smooth-running design without VCT.
Lightweight, Balanced Design:
Weighing as little as 478 lbs (217 kg) for the 20-inch mechanical model, and around 509 lbs (231 kg) for the digital version, the F150 offers one of the best power-to-weight ratios in its category — ideal for mid-sized vessels.
Quiet and Refined Operation:
The in-line four-cylinder configuration, combined with a specially designed flywheel dampener, significantly reduces vibration and noise for a smooth, quiet ride, even at idle and cruising speeds.
Integrated Steering (New for Latest Models):
Now available with Integrated Hydraulic Steering (mechanical) or Integrated Electro-Hydraulic Steering (DES) for digital models, the latest F150 provides a cleaner transom, simplified rigging, and more bilge space. This factory-integrated system also enhances steering precision and reduces maintenance.
TotalTilt™ Function (Digital Models):
Exclusive to digital models, Yamaha’s TotalTilt™ system allows full tilt-up or tilt-down operation from any position with just a double-tap of the trim button — with an integrated tilt limiter for safety and convenience.
Fuel Efficiency:
Advanced EFI mapping delivers exceptional fuel economy across the RPM range, especially at cruising speeds, making the F150 one of the most economical mid-range outboards available.
High-Output Alternator:
Equipped with a 35-amp alternator (mechanical models) or a 50-amp alternator (digital models), the F150 easily powers modern onboard electronics, fishing systems, and navigation equipment.
Helm Master EX Compatibility (Digital Models):
The digital F150 seamlessly integrates with Yamaha’s Helm Master EX system, offering features such as joystick control, autopilot, and SetPoint® position-holding for precise handling and effortless docking.
Corrosion Protection:
Built with Yamaha’s advanced Phaze Five™ anti-corrosive paint system, including five layers of electro-deposited coating, providing superior protection in both freshwater and saltwater environments.
